SkillsUSA Mayfair High School

2025 NLSC

June 23rd-27th marked the return of Mayfair High School to SkillsUSA’s annual National Leadership and Skills Conference. While our chapter has competed previously at the 2024 and 2022 NLSC, this time around we had our largest delegation of six total competitors.Representing California in the Chapter Display category, Kyi Phyu Aung, Alyssa Pau, and Karina Mercado worked meticulously to construct a display that expresses the annual theme of SkillsUSA: “Ignite Your Potential”. Additionally, representing California in the Outstanding Chapter category, Roman Diaz, Maximo Ramos, and Daisy Teniente reported to judges about our chapter’s yearly activities and both secretary’s and treasurer’s notebooks. To compete, competitors had to have won 1st place at the 2025 SLSC.Not only did our chapter compete, we were able to visit events held by SkillsUSA, such as the Techspo, Champion’s Festival, and Annual Community Service Project. The Techspo is a convention of various industry partners of SkillsUSA to showcase their companies to all members. Some of the featured partners were the US Military, Komatsu, Toyota, JCB, Volvo, Red Cross, Penske, and many more. As for the SkillsUSA Champion Festival, it served as a celebration for every state delegate and competitor for their time at the NLSC. This facilitated a means to have fun pin trading, industry networking, and visiting the DJ area. To close out the activities, our members helped serve back Atlanta by partaking in SkillsUSA’s Annual Community Service Project of building bicycles for local charities. Over 300 members from various states came together to aid in this project! While we may not have won, this experience was truly unforgettable for both of our chapter’s teams and outstanding advisor. Cheers to the 2024-2025 term, Mayfair SkillsUSA!

2025 SkillsUSA Leadership Academy

This year two of our students, Gregory Meija and Derek Taing (incoming 10th graders), qualified to join the SkillsUSA Leadership Academy from July 18th-20th in Sacramento. The SkillsUSA Leadership Academy was a three day event, where our members worked on the four pillars of leadership: compassion, trust, stability, and hope which allow clarity in understanding the principles of leadership. The experience came with lessons and activities that allow a member insight on what it means to be a leader. They mix interpersonal abilities with effective leadership through their deeds.Derek and Gregory completed a total of 20 hours worth of leadership experience. Some of these training involved public speaking, team engineering challenges, group roleplay presentations, and communication game activities. This opportunity not only came with lessons and activities to allow a member insight on what it means to be a leader, but also prepared them for their chapter officer positions for Mayfair SkillsUSA’s 2025-2026 Chapter Term.Mayfair SkillsUSA wholeheartedly endorse attending and applying to the SkillsUSA program and/or leadership academy for anyone who is looking to build leadership, teamwork, and workplace skills.
